How Solo Started
Solo was born from a simple idea, “Surfing is about so much more than just catching waves”
In 2021, during the wake of the pandemic, Catharine and Simone—two surfers, globe-trotters, and passionate entrepreneurs—realised something was missing in the world of surf travel. There were countless surf camps popping up around the planet, but they often lacked substance. They were missing what makes surfing truly magical: a strong sense of community, genuine support, high-quality coaching, and a focus on the full experience of surfing.
For us, surfing is about more than paddling out and riding waves (though we’re obsessed with that, too!). It’s the sunsets shared with friends, the laughter over dinner after a long day in the water, the new places, deep conversations, and spontaneous adventures. That’s what makes a surf trip unforgettable. Think about it like this: imagine going to the best pizza place in town, only to have the waiter toss the pizza at you. Sure, it might taste good, but what about the experience?
With this vision in mind, Solo took shape as a concept in 2021. By early 2023, it became a reality. Today, Solo is growing fast, building an incredible community of like-minded surf travelers from across Europe and beyond.
MEet the team
Catharine O’Boyle and Simone Alfano our founders, are the heart and soul of Solo.
Both are surfers, experienced coaches, and world travelers who have explored some of the most iconic surf destinations on the planet. Through years of visiting and working with various surf camps, they’ve seen the surf industry from every angle—the good, the bad, and everything in between. Their passion for creating something different, something better, is what drives Solo forward.

Morris, our Swiss-born chef, brings culinary magic to our trips, keeping everyone fuelled and happy.
Ryan, our content creator, photographer and marketing guru from Wales, captures every moment and ensures our vibe shines through to the world.
And, of course, the biggest part of our crew is you—the adventurous, surf-obsessed, good-vibes-only individuals who make up the beating heart of Solo. Without you, none of this would be possible.
